Whiplash Injury

The most common type of injury resulting from a road traffic accident is a whiplash injury. The UK has one of the highest rates of whiplash injury in Europe with around one thousand two hundred incidents every day.

Rather than actually suing the person individually, injuries involving road accidents are claimed from the driver's insurance policy. There is usually no need to go to court, as this is a relatively straightforward process, dealt with by the insurance companies who have their own legal departments to handle such matters.

Before you contact a specialist solicitor to help you with your claim you should visit your doctor to record the accident on your medical record so that it can be used in evidence. This is important as the symptoms of a whiplash injury can sometimes be delayed. You can make a claim for road traffic injuries up to three years from the date of the accident.

You can claim for a whiplash injury even if you were only a passenger in the vehicle at fault, as well as being able to claim if you are a passenger in a taxi or coach.

Having consulted a doctor you should contact a specialist solicitor, as they will be able to advise you on how the process works, what action is required from you, and how much compensation you might receive.
